Gift Ideas for The Baker and Cook

Happy Friday!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with lots of family, fun, and of course really good food! Some of you may be out braving the malls black friday shopping, surprisingly black friday has even made its way to Canada over the last couple of years. I for one, will not be partaking as I really can’t handle the crowds :)

I thought I would share some gift ideas for the baker and home cook in your life, and if that’s you, feel free to forward this to the necessary people :) I know that a list like this would make my husband really happy as he never knows what to get me! Some girls like diamonds and jewellery, and while they are nice, the way to this girls heart is appliances, baking stuff, recipe books, and even camera equipment. I may be a weird specimen. Lol!

Here are some of my favourite things that I absolutely love and a few things that are on my wish list.

The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook:
This is one of the books I am most looking forward to getting. Smitten Kitchen was one of the first blogs I started reading, and I absolutely adore it, I’m certain this book will not disappoint.

Bouchon Bakery:
I just picked this book up a couple of weeks ago, and it is absolutely beautiful! Great photos and lots of great recipes. There is a wide variety of recipes from simple such as muffins and cookies, to more challenging recipes.

Baked Elements: Our 10 Favorite Ingredients:
I picked up Baked Elements this fall, and I even gave one away here on the blog. This is the third book from the boys at Baked. I have not stopped baking from this book since I got it/  Tons of great all american recipes that do not disappoint!

Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones: 90 Recipes for Making Your Own Ice Cream and Frozen Treats from Bi-Rite Creamery

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home

I’ve never been a huge ice cream fan, but since I got an ice-cream maker it completely changed my mind. These are two books that I’m dying to get my hands on!

Breakfast for Dinner: Recipes for Frittata Florentine, Huevos Rancheros, Sunny-Side Up Burgers, and More!

This book by blogger Lindsay Landis of Love and Olive Oil hasn’t been released yet, but I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it!

I could probably go on forever with the books, because I have a bit of an addiction, but I’ll stop there :)

Kitchen Equipment

Digital Kitchen Scale: Every baker should have one of these. You’ll find yourself using it several times per week, and will find that it makes baking quicker and easier.

KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Stand Mixer
This is a big, and impressive gift, and someone will love you forever :) I couldn’t live without my KitchenAid mixer. It makes life so easy. And bonus, it comes it tons of colours!
KitchenAid “Cook for the Cure” Edition Blender: A blender is high up on my wish list! I make a smoothie every morning and don’t own one! I absolutely love this pink colour, and love that it’s for a great cause (breast Cancer).
Ice Cream Maker: This isn’t a must have item, but it’s really fun, and I promise you will never buy store-bought ice cream again. I love my ice cream maker, and bonus this model comes in tons of really fun colours!

Thermapen Instant Read Thermometer: I just finally got myself one of these about 2 months ago, and I absolutely love it!! (just ask my husband) It’s super fast and incredibly accurate. I don’t know how I ever lived without it. It’s a little pricey, but its excellent quality and likely something that you will have forever. Perfect for baking and cooking.
Silpat Non-Stick Baking Mat: This is an essential for anyone who bakes a lot. It’s a great investment, and I promise you will love it. I use it for anything from cookies to roasting veggies, or even chicken. Definitely a great gift!

Baking Stone: This is an essential for anyone who likes to bake bread or make homemade pizza. I use mine daily, and it even stays in my oven at all times.

Cast Iron Dutch Oven: I just got one of these last week (7qt), and I love it! I don’t know any home cooks who wouldn’t love one of these! While I would have loved a Le Creuset, it just wasn’t in my budget but I am extremely happy with this one and do not regret my choice one bit! This is a great gift!!

Stocking Stuffers:

Madagascar Vanilla Beans: Vanilla Beans add tons of flavour and bakers just love them!

Pure Vanilla Extract: Always a necessity.

Offset Spatula: I use this for filling cakes and frosting cakes. I like the smaller one better than the larger ones.

Oxo Good Grips 3-piece Silicone Spatula Set: You can never have too many of these!

Ateco Bench Scraper with Plastic Handle: Not only is this amazing for cleaning your counter when working with dough, flour, etc. But excellent for smoothing the sides of cakes.

Silicone Rolling Pin Spacer Bands: Nice little gadget for getting precise thickness on doughs.

Fun Stuff!

Retro SLR Camera: So I came across these yesterday and thought they were so cool! This is awesome for anyone who likes to take pictures. These SLR cameras are available in so many options and take some really cool 70’s looking photos. Check out the link as I wasn’t able to upload a photo. Love, love, love these!

iPhone Case: I’ve been wanting a new case for a while, and Cuptakes has some really cute cases. There are so many cute options that it’s hard to choose just one!

Hopefully I’ve given you some great options for the baker and home cook in your life, or for yourself!

Happy Shopping!

xoxo Jessica
